Download the zipApple Silicon only. Fohun needs an M1 Mac or newer. It will not launch on an Intel Mac — speech recognition runs on the Apple Neural Engine and GPU, and there is no Intel build.
The Windows build is a preview, and an honest one. It does the core loop: hold Right Alt, speak, release, and the text is typed where your cursor is. What it does not do yet is hands-free dictation, and it cannot yet detect password fields the way the Mac version does — so do not dictate into one. Everything still runs locally.
Fohun is signed and notarised by Apple, so it opens like any other app. It does need three permissions before it can do its job.
1 · Drag it in
Open the disk image and drag Fohun into Applications. Run it from there, not from the disk image.
2 · Open it
Double-click. No warning, no right-clicking, no trip into System Settings — the build is notarised, so macOS just opens it.
3 · Grant three permissions
Microphone to hear you. Input Monitoring so the shortcut works outside Fohun. Accessibility to type into other apps. All three are genuinely required — without the last two the shortcut only works inside Fohun and no text is inserted.
Then hold Right ⌥ anywhere and speak. Or double-tap Right ⌘ to go hands-free, or click the floating mark. Right-click that mark to reach the app itself.
If the shortcut does nothing outside Fohun,
Input Monitoring is missing. If it records but no text appears, Accessibility is.
The app writes what it sees to ~/Library/Logs/Fohun/fohun.log.
1 · Unzip, keep it together
Fohun.exe needs the files beside it. Unzip the whole folder somewhere and run Fohun.exe from inside it.
2 · Get past SmartScreen
The build is not code-signed, so Windows will say the publisher is unknown. More info, then Run anyway.
3 · Allow the microphone
If nothing is ever heard, check Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. With desktop app access off, Windows hands apps silence rather than an error.
Then hold Right Alt and speak, or click the floating mark to start and click again to finish. Escape while holding throws the recording away. If Fohun reports a missing library on first run, install the Visual C++ Redistributable and start it again.
